Mr 8:17 But Jesus, being aware of [it], said to them, “Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart still hardened? 18 “Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?
After Jesus had multiplied the provisions, loaves of bread and fishes, to feed 4,000 and then again for 5,000, He was amazed at the apostles answer to His warning about the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod. Jesus mentions six things in these two verses that can hinder us from doing the works that Jesus did and greater:
Ø Why do you reason….?
Ø Do you not yet perceive nor understand?
Ø Is your heart still hardened?
Ø Having eyes, do you not see?
Ø And having ears, do you not hear?
Ø And do you not remember?
Our minds can get us to miss what God has intended for us to do. Paul warned us in Col. 2:8 “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy…etc. One of those underlying philosophies that we must battle everyday is called relativism. Encarta Dictionary of English defines relativism as: the belief that concepts such as right and wrong, goodness and badness, or truth and falsehood are not absolute but change from culture to culture and situation to situation. With this belief you have changeable standards. God has one Standard that never changes. We must not let this philosophy influence our reasoning, it will cheat you. Cheat you of all that God has for you. You can believer His Word always, in every circumstance, culture and situation. The Word tells us what is right or wrong, true or false, or good or bad. It is all in the Bible so don’t reason it away because you don’t like it. Accept it, you will find peace and an end to your spiritual search for significance.
Our perception is based on what we’ve been taught and on our own personal experience. Don’t let those things keep you from what God has for you (read “Do you not yet perceive nor understand?)
Jesus was not questioning there ability to believe Him, but their inability to grasp the miracles they had seen. Mr 6:52 For they had not understood about the loaves, because their heart was hardened. In Robertson’s NT Word Pictures he says this about the hardened heart: Today some men have such intellectual hardness or denseness that they cannot believe that God can or would work miracles, least of all nature miracles. Don’t let the impossibility of a miracle harden your heart so you won’t believe. I have seen many miracles in my life, healings,…etc. Every time I had to overcome my natural reasoning and the impossibility of the situation.
This has to do with our ability to see the potential of what God can do in every situation. To grow in our ability is based on what we are looking to for inspiration or to find truth. The truth is in the Word of God, so when we look at that perfect law of liberty we will be blessed in everything we do (James 1:25).
Can you hear the voice of the Lord? Yes, you can!!!
2Tim.3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The Word of God is the way that we can hear the voice of God speaking in our live. Charles Finney in his “Revival Lectures” talks about how there is always a promise of God in the Scriptures that will reveal Gods will for every situation and circumstance that will ever come. So “Take the time to read, because Jesus took the time to bleed “ (old song).
It is so important to take the time to remember the blessings and the miracles that God has done in your life. If you want to really get blessed, then go find a quiet place to get alone with God and start remembering.
Ps 77:10 And I said, “This is my anguish; But I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.” 11 I will remember the works of the LORD; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old.
Have a Great Day!!!
