Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Freedom

We don’t have to worry about the conditions of this world economy, if it is going to recover or I crash. There is a way to help steady your soul, your mind, will and emotions, in the Lord. Christians should always be the ones who shine with optimism when everyone in the world is living under a dark cloud of gloom. There are certain things that we can do so that our lives stay in a place of His continual Blessing.
Psalms 1:1. ¶ Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
The first thing that we can do to stay blessed is be one“…Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly.” What is the Counsel of the Ungodly?
1. Counsel simply means seeking or taking advice from somebody.
2. The people we should not take advice from is the ungodly.
a. Who are the Ungodly?
i. All of mankind by nature are ungodly, without God, without the knowledge of truth, fear and worship of God, and are antagonisic toward Him.
These are the people that we need to avoid taking advice from if we want to stay in that blessed state. We can take advice from ungodly, by letting what they say influence our lives. This can happen as we go about the simple task of living. When we relax before the television, watch news, shows, listen to lyrics in songs, watch movies, go social interaction sites, read online news, commentaries …etc. To stay in that blessed state we need to pay attention to what we allow to enter our minds and hearts, they can influence us more than you can imagine.
1. Stand in this verse means to remain or dwell.
2. Path means the way or manner (of living)
3. Sinners, those who are in the habit of practicing sin.
To stay blessed we need to make sure that we are not hanging with those who practice sin. That means those who justify the sin they commit and don’t want to repent. This is why Paul warned the Corinthians 1Co 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” I have observed, sadly, many well intentioned Christians reaching out to those who have never repented of their sins, make friends, remain in close contact, and slowly change. Some I am sad to say have even lost their faith entirely or are so mixed in their views that their faith hardly resembles Christianity (read Culture Cult).
1. Sit means more that sitting down to rest, it implies a constant abiding or dwelling.
2. The Scornful are those who boast or scorn.
With the Scornful being those who boast or scorn then we need to almost always avoid sitting and listening to most talk radio or mainstream media. Instead of intelligent conversation and reporting they have taken to bragging, boasting and mocking.
These three things only lead to us being overly weighed down in the stream of the worlds perspective of life. If you have been fighting, fear, depression, anxiety or an overtly worrisome expression, then you need to quit doing those three things and then watch what happens.
The secret to staying in that blessed state is not in just avoiding things. It involves us pleasantly pursuing “…law of the LORD.” When David uses the term law of the Lord or statutes, or ordinances, he is poetically saying the Word of God. David delighted in the Word and the way of living that such a love would naturally produce. He so loved it that you can see him encouraging:
To meditate means to muse, mutter, meditate and imagine. Start taking control of those day dreams, those mumblings to yourself and the things on which you ponder. Let your mind be filled with His Word instead of the things that you usually thing about. Find out what God has to say about a certain circumstance or situation you find yourself in and then write it down, read it over and over throughout the day. When you get home at night spend the last 30 minutes of your day musing on those things.
